Custom Architectural Metalwork & Fabrication in Tucson

We recently hired Johansen Fence & Gate to design and install a custom steel privacy wall in our backyard. Our goal was to screen our neighbors home and outdoor lighting from view and provide enhanced privacy to our backyard and pool area. Cody and his team did an absolutely superb job! The wall is seventy feet long and six feet high and made up of individual panels custom fabricated by Johansen Fence & Gate. The fabrication and installation of these panels was absolutely flawless. Cody's team was extremely professional and courteous and they left our property in excellent shape. No additional clean up was even necessary. We could not be any happier with our new wall and we are extremely grateful to Cody and his team. We highly recommend Johansen Fence & Gate for any and all home projects, and look forward to being a future repeat customer.

We were in need of a snake proof fence for our many dogs and after calling around to several fencing companies we chose Johansen Fence and Gate. Cody listened to everything we wanted and delivered way above our expectations! Danny and his crew worked tirelessly and were always able to answer any questions we had. I really appreciated that they took the time to ask us questions about the layout of the fence and gate. The end product gives us the privacy we wanted without distracting our mountain views. We already plan on contacting them again in the future for a shading canopy. Highly recommend Johansen Fence and Gate!

When I called I got an instant response to have my gate replaced. The timeline they gave me was even faster than they had said and the gate is beautiful. It is so much easier to use than the gate it replaced. Great guys to work with, reliable, very friendly and concerned about the customer getting exactly what they want. I recommend them highly.

If I could good give a ten star rating for Johansen Fence and Gate, I would. Cody and his entire staff are professional, courteous and, most importantly, interested in satisfyling your expectations for your project. Johansen Fence and Gate installed two metal gates to a HVAC - garbage enclosure and a gate to the entrance to our pool and patio. Although the work doesn't sound interesting, the gates made both areas a focal point rather than an after thought. Friends and contractors who have been at our house expressed how special the gates are. I highly recommend Johansen Fence and Gate for your next decorative metal project. I am looking forward to the installation of a metal drain cover on the patio. The 12" x 12" cover will certainly be a beautiful addition to the patio. Please excuse my photography. The drain cover was installed this morning. Just a terrific job. The cover is a small item. Cody and Stephan treated it like the most important job. Great people, great service great ressults. Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow Joel K

Beautiful and well done work. Really great to work with. We are very happy with our new fencing. Highly recommend this team.

We have a beautiful security gate thanks to Cody and Steve and the team. The process of meeting with Cody, drawing what we wanted, handing it off to Steve's artistry and having it installed was so smooth. Everyone was always on time, did what they said they would do and did it exceedingly well. We think the price they charged was WELL worth it and we couldn't be more happy with the final product.

Working with The Johansen Team has been one of the best experiences in my 26 years as a designer, and I have been lucky enough to work with contractors who have done stunning work all over the country. Aside from their steel fabrication and expert craftsmanship on the custom pergolas, fire pit, fireplace, and screen panels, which were second to none, it was their professionalism through every stage of the project that stood out. Cody, Steven and the entire crew were willing to work with me to find solutions to many unique design challenges with patience and ingenuity. Since I live across the country, they oversaw and coordinated multiple contractors and utilities on a very intricate project from start to finish, which turned out perfect. They were always a joy to work with, and every interaction was a positive one. If I ever have another custom steel project in Tucson, or anywhere else for that matter, Johansen will be the first ones I call. Photos: 1. Design, and 2. Installed.

Cody and his team designed a beautiful custom gate for my home. I am so happy with the results and the service. Really great to work with, great crew and excellent customer service. Totally bad ass gate that I love!! My second project just completed! Again, beautiful work, crew was excellent, clean, and I love the design of my new security screen topper for my stucco wall. I am so impressed with Johansen Fence & Gate...highly recommend them if you have any metal work, or fencing needs.

Nick, Chris, and Alejandro did an amazing job. They were very precise with their measurements, so the fence is straight and true. Our view isn't obstructed which was very important to us. The site was left clean. Fantastic job, fantastic company. Would highly recommend.

Work was finished on time, with a professional team that worked very hard to complete the requirements needed. They were easy to work with and very polite. I would highly recommend this company.

Steel fencing projects designed to last a long time are not inexpensive. A five star review needs be earned, so we didn’t take this lightly. Johansen Fence earned five stars handily. Here’s our breakdown: *Client Engagement – 5 Stars (same reasonably detailed quote request went out to 4 other highly rated fence companies, only Johansen responded without nudging) *Two-way Communication – 5 Stars *Project Clarity – 5 Stars (this included a walk and talk through with Cody and Steve and measurements for final project drawing and contract) *Timeliness – 5 Stars *Quality of Shop Work and Materials – 5 Stars *Quality of Installation Work – 5 Stars *Willingness of Excellent Work Crew to put up with Senior Client Occasionally Hanging Around – 5 Stars *Satisfaction with Final Work – 5 Stars Thanks again Cody, Steve, Danny, Keifer and Tyler!

Could not be more pleased with the quality of the work. The crew were pleasant and professional and highly skilled. I felt great about having them at my home! I had conceived a project and they delivered. It looks even better than what I had in my mind's eye. I feel very fortunate to have found Johansen. Will absolutely hire them again

We had a great experience with Johansen Fence and Gate on designing and installing a pool fence. Cody promptly responded with an on-site visit, quote, and drawings. The work was completed promptly (which we needed!). Everyone at Johansen Fence knew AZ code and made sure we were getting what we needed to pass inspection and keep kids safe at our house. The finished product looked just like the drawing! We asked for the fence to be curved to the shape of our pool and cool deck and they really shaped it perfectly. We are happy with the color and overall look. We would definitely recommend Johansen Fence and Gate to others!

We had Johansen install a fence and two gates as part of a big backyard landscaping project. There was a six foot grade from the front of the yard to the back, so they designed a fence that stepped up to match the grade. We didn't want to completely block out the desert beyond the fence, so Cody suggested a metal mesh material. It came out beautifully and really makes the backyard look amazing! We did not have it "pre-rusted"; we have just let it rust naturally and we love the look. Our experience working with Cody, from the quoting process, to selection of materials, to planning, to execution was excellent. He was very responsive to our questions, and extremely patient with us as we chose materials and firmed up the final plan. His team - with Chris as lead, and his assistants Armando and Eduardo, were talented craftsmen who were meticulous in their work. Overall, this part of our landscaping project was the least stressful, and the end result is fantastic.

I am absolutely pleased with the outcome of the fence project. The workmanship was outstanding and the install was top notch. I would definitely recommend this company. I hope I have more projects like this down the road.

I work as a residential outdoor living contractor/ designer. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Johansen Fence and Gates on a contemporary, cantilever pergola project. Cody, Steven and the team knocked this one out of the park AND finished ahead of schedule!! From start to finish, Johansen Fence and Gate made this project come together without a hitch. They helped coordinate engineering, electrical and footings as well. The entire process was painless because of the communication, professionalism and promptness of the Johansen Fence and Gate team. Looking forward to working with them on many projects in the future.

Johansen Fence and Gate did a FANTASTIC job on our gate and security screen door for our home. Very detailed and fine craftsmanship in addition to great communication during the design process and install. The time and effort and the quality of work that went into our gate and privacy screen are unmatched. It was important for us to choose a smaller family owned, and operated company and Cody Johanson and his amazing team did not disappoint! If you’re looking for a custom build, we highly recommend using the Johanson family for your next project! Their whole team is highly qualified and extremely professional, and we will definitely utilize their skills for more projects in the future!

The finished product was even better than expected. Outstanding!

We found Johansen Fence & Gate in July 2024, before we even moved to Tucson. We owned a home here, and wanted to get a shade structure in as soon as we could. After getting a quote that was outside our budget we gave Johansen a call. Their price was more competitive, without sacrificing quality and workmanship. Besides the shade structure, the project included some fencing and gates. Cody talked us through the city requirements. The shade structure, being attached to the house, had to go through various city approvals: design, structural integrity, etc. With his guidance we were able to make positive changes to our initial design to speed up that part of the process. Plus, while we waited for the city, they put in our fences & gates. Once the city approved the shade drawing (in mid April!) Johansen’s team went to work, a large undertaking, roughly 12’ x 38’, with two fans and lighting. Our home was built in the 70”s and is a bit quirky with regard to electrical. Each “challenge” was handled promptly and left us better off than before.Throughout, the crew was mindful of not blocking the alley, which was greatly appreciated by our neighbors.. From Cody Johansen (owner), to the design team, to the site workers – everyone was professional, efficient, communicative and kind. We would not hesitate to call them again for any future jobs that fell into their area of expertise.

Cody and Steve & their crew made and installed a beautiful, automated entrance gate for our property. I gave them an idea of what I wanted and they delivered ! We can’t be happier with their professionalism and the quality of their product. This is the 2nd time we have used Johansen fence and won’t be the last. Carole Bronston

Hands down, the Johansen Team is the best Fence & Gate Company in southern Arizona! Over the past 40 years, my wife and I have built three homes, the last of which is here in Tucson. These home construction projects provided us the opportunity to work with multiple construction teams and 3’rd party vendors, many of which resulted in less than desirable work experiences and outcomes, mainly because these vendors simply could not meet our quality standards. Though I admit, my wife and I are extremely picky and detailed, working with Cody Johansen and his team was a BREATH OF FRESH AIR! As a matter of fact, we were highly confident (even before the Johansen team arrived on site) that we had made the right decision in selecting Johansen Fence & Gate for this vital project. There were three major objectives that my wife and I needed to accomplish with this project. Provide much needed privacy in our backyard, replace the existing fence with a more secure and custom product, and elevate our existing home value. Simply put, Johansen Fence & Gate EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS and the Johansen team OVER DELIVERED on all three of these objectives! As soon as Cody and the team arrived on site, we realized these guys were super focused on their wheelhouse, and our backyard was their playground because THESE GUYS LOVE WHAT THEY DO! It must be noted Cody Johansen and team possess superior metal craftsmanship and they incorporate creative design elements that capture a modern, contemporary, desert southwest architectural style. Their metal fabrication and finish work is SECOND TO NONE and each of the plasma cut panels has its own unique personality and artistic pattern. When we view their finished product in our rear yard, we’ve come to realize it is no longer a border fence, but A WORK OF FINE ART! We want to thank Cody Johansen for his leadership, customer service, and responsive communication skills. His estimated timelines and cost projections were spot on! We thank Steven for his creativity and can do spirit in achieving a design and architecture that certainly RAISED THE BAR above other competitors. We thank Danny who was the on-site supervisor and he led a well-executed installation with meticulous attention to measurements and details. Lastly, we want to thank Cris, Keithfer, and Nich, who each took the time and energy to execute this project to high quality standards. I’m sure these guys do these heavy lift projects day in and day out, week after week, but on our site, they were enthusiastic and eager to DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, without taking short cuts on preparation and installation tasks. As the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” In reflecting on this, high quality does come at a price, but we found Johansen Fence & Gate to be very competitive, compassionate, and THE END RESULT IS PRICELESS AND UNEQUALED IN VALUE! We could not have imagined a better result and we are EXTREMELY HAPPY with our new custom fence! We highly recommend Johansen Fence & Gate to anyone seeking to enhance their home investment with lasting quality!

Cody and his team are consummate professionals. Cody came to review the project the day after I contacted him. He patiently worked with us over 2 weeks as we finalized the design over a number of iterations. The pricing was transparent and fair, and they fabricated and installed the gates and fence all within a month. Cody's communication is timely and respectful. I have another metal project planned, and I will be using them again. Recommend 100%.

I contracted with Cody Johansen to create three 3'X7' steel trellises to stand alongside and two feet away from my garage. I sent drawings of them that included artwork at the tops to Cody. He and Steven worked with me exchanging renderings to get what I consider an excellent result even better than what I had originally conceived. The trellises are made of very high quality material and the crew that installed them did an excellent job of getting them evenly spaced, level, and perfectly situated. If you want High Quality work, Johansen is the place to get it.

Fence turned out beautifully and exactly what I wanted. Crew was enjoyable to work with and answered all of my questions.

Cody and his team are incredible. From the first phone call to surveying the job to the quote to the design proposal and installation. Cody made the process very straightforward. We love the design proposals and the final product is incredible. We replaced some stock gates that came with the house with custom solid pieces that really accent the beauty of our home and complement the presence and curb appeal. The new gates are quality that you can feel. They are solid and beautiful. All around a great experience and I highly recommend Cody and Johansen gate.
